BLOGS

Don’t feel bad if you don’t know what a blog is because we didn’t know until about 20 minutes ago ourselves.  You can learn everything you might want to knowhereand here, but at Roots Television™, our blogs will essentially be online columns.

You can also comment on your favorite blogs. You can discuss the content of each blog right within the blog itself.  Just look for the “comments” link immediately following the posting that you’d like to add your two cents’ worth to!
One of the links above includes a remark that “there are as many unique types of blogs as there are people,” and we couldn’t agree more.  So while we’re starting with just a few blogs, we’ll introduce more over time to cover a variety of roots- related topics by folks with a variety of opinions and personalities.  Feel free to read them all or pick your favorite.

Og Blog

Og Blog

Who the heck is Og?  One of our founders was so obsessed with genealogy as a youngster that she used to doodle the family tree of mankind in the margins of her school papers – and they always started with a caveman named Og.  So we settled on Og as our Roots Television™ guide.  If you want to keep up with the latest additions and happenings, this is the place to look.

Climbing family trees

Climbing Family Trees

Trina Boice and Tracey Long, twin sisters who grew up in California, have a love of TREES.  As youngsters they loved climbing TREES, then spread their branches by pursuing educations at BYU, the University of Salamanca in Spain, and CCHS, and eventually set down roots and have been raising and nurturing their own TREEmendous families.

Trina was honored as the California Young Mother of the Year in 2004 (her family is still laughing about that one), and also was selected as a recipient of President Bush’s “Points of Light” Award. She is a best-selling author of 5 books, and can be found at www.boicebox.com. Tracey teaches Nursing at both the University of Nevada Las Vegas and Community College of Southern Nevada, and has taught pre-school for twelve years.  Together they have written a book entitled Climbing Family TREES: Whispers in the Leaves and are popular event speakers who can’t stop talking about genealogy.

Their TREEmendous creativity and enthusiasm for life is downright obnoxious.  See if you agree by checking out www.climbingfamilytrees.com, and be sure to watch their entertaining vlog postings about how to honor and celebrate your own family!

Happy heritage hunting!

RAOGK

RAOGK was established in 1999 as a global volunteer organization. Genealogical researchers have always needed documentation. Before the Internet, it was necessary to travel great distances or use snail mail because many of us don’t live close to the places where our ancestors lived. Today, assistance is often just a mouse click away. With volunteers in every U.S. state and many international locations, RAOGK volunteers have helped thousands of researchers. They take time to do everything from looking up courthouse records to taking pictures of tombstones – and all they ask in return is reimbursement for their expenses (never their time) and a THANK YOU.

The Genealogue

The Genealogue

Evidence is piling up at The Genealogue that genealogy is a weird and wonderful pursuit. If you find your ancestors hard to find, take a break and let Chris Dunham be your irreverent guide to the lighter side of genealogy. He truly is genealogy’s guilty pleasure!

Tracing the Tribe

An informative blog about all aspects of Jewish genealogy -- all the developments, tools and resources you'll need to peer more closely into your family tree. A native New Yorker, now living in Israel, Schelly Talalay Dardashti has been researching her Ashkenazic and Sephardic roots since 1989, writing about Jewish genealogy since 1999 (for the Jerusalem Post, JTA, The Forward, Ynetnews, Avotaynu, etc.), teaching online Jewish genealogy (MyFamily.com) and speaking in Israel, Europe and the U.S. In other words, she knows her stuff!
