If you're curious about the upcoming PBS special on Oprah's roots (scheduled on most PBS stations on 1/24/07), you might want to read this.
Basically, it's been created from footage left over from last year's African American Lives special (which will also be running on many PBS stations), so it's not entirely new. But there was a lot to like about last year's show, and anytime Oprah gets involved in something, you know it's a good thing.
I still haven't received my copy of the companion book, Finding Oprah's Roots, but here's the table of contents in case you're curious:
Introduction
Part One: Beginnings
Part Two: Oprah
Part Three: Into the Past
Part Four: Out of Slavery: a Paper Trail
Part Five: Beyond the Middle Passage: DNA
Part Six: Looking Back
Appendix: Resources for Building Your Family Tree
Here's hoping the special and the book inspire plenty of fresh genealogical recruits!
