Tony Burroughs at Sea

In our latest segment from the Wholly Genes Cruise, Dick Eastman sits down with his good friend Tony Burroughs, author of Black Roots: A Beginners Guide to Tracing the African American Family Tree.

Tony is no newbie in the genealogy or television world - he's a beloved speaker and adjunct professor, and has appeared or consulted on television series for PBS, the BBC, and the very popular African American Lives program, among others. So when Tony takes a break from the Carribbean surf and sand to give a few tips on tracing your family tree, it's time to listen! Tony shares a few of his favorite websites for African American genealogical research, and he gives advice for reading census records and placing your ancestors into an historical context.
