Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness was
established in 1999 as a global volunteer
organization.
Genealogical researchers have always needed
and will always need documentation. The
Internet does not provide all of this and actual
footwork is needed.
Before the Internet, it was necessary to travel
great distances or use postal mail because
most researchers do not live close to the
places of our origins. Today, assistance is
often just a mouse click away.
With volunteers in every U. S. state and many
international locations, RAOGK volunteers have
helped thousands of researchers. They take
the time to do everything from looking up
courthouse records to taking photographs
of tombstones - and all they ask in return
is reimbursement for their expenses (Never
their time) and a THANK YOU.
Take a moment of your time when helped
to post a public THANK YOU to our
"Kudos Thanks" webpage at:
Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness
Thanks You for your participation.

This is fantastic! I can't wait, and not just to get help, but to give help. I have three daughters ages 15, 15, and 12 and we love tramping around old cemetaries and I love digging through old books.

I have been a volunteer with RAOGK almost since the beginning, why? because I ran out of family to research (not really ran out but I figured going back to 1540 in Europe was far enough) and because I love to share the joy of helping others. Here in Australia, while we are not as old as the USA, we are still steeped with history. The vast land mass of Australia is as big as the USA but no where nearly as populated. Many inhabitants came here via the USA.
RAOGK would not be what it is or where it is today without the dedication of Bridgett and Dale (Doc). Bridgett lives, breathes, eats and sleeps RAOGK. Being on the other side of the hemisphere has not hampered the sisterly friendship we share and with that I moved 'up' the ladder to become a volunteer staff member looking after all our volunteers outside of the USA. While there are many of thousands of volunteers within the USA, there are just as many outside of it covering the rest for the world's continents. While we would love to have a volunteer in every corner of the world, we do cover most of it.
The gift of 'paying it forward' is both rewarding and satisfying. Your insight or experience could hold the key to someone breaking down a wall that has long held the frustration of working out the family puzzle. You never know - you may even find a lost relative yourself.
Go on visit the site, check out what our volunteers do and think about how you can help others. We do have guidelines in place for both volunteers and requesters, "Race, color, creed or religion" play no part in our organization - we welcome everyone.
Hope to see you soon.
Anna.
